This panel explains the motivation for the Founding Fathers to turn away from the rule of man, a King, to the rule of law, a democracy. Our founders created a new kind of nation; a nation where the people's law is supreme. They suffered the tyranny of the British king. What is Tyranny? Tyranny exists when an absolute ruler governs without limitations and is not subject to the laws that apply to everyone else. Tyranny is unjust, oppressive, and often cruel to the people who are governed. There is a copy of a portrait of King George III of England, who ruled during the American Revolution. He is wearing a yellow silk outfit covered with a coat of ermine fur.
